Apple plans to discontinue selling certain Apple Watch models in the US starting this week, including the Series 9 and Ultra 2, which will no longer be available for purchase.
In order to avoid being caught off guard by what may turn out to be one of the biggest patent fights in recent memory; Apple intends to discontinue selling some Apple Watch models in the US as early as this week. The Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 will no longer be available for purchase on Thursday on Apple.com and in stores after December 24, the company confirmed to the media.
Apple has removed its best-selling smartwatch due to a disagreement with medical device maker Masimo over its blood oxygen feature, putting the device's global success at risk. Apple's promotion of the smartwatch as a life-saving tool is under threat.
Apple violated Masimo's pulse oximeter patent in October, with the ban potentially taking effect after 60 days of President Biden's 60-day review period.
The business stated that it will keep taking all necessary steps to get the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 back to customers in the United States as quickly as possible if the order remains in place.
Although an import restriction would affect Apple Watch Series 6 and later, as well as any units of Apple Watch Ultra imported after the conclusion of an upcoming review period, other models will still be available for purchase. Apple claims that it won't affect the Apple Watch SE's sales, though.
