The top chipmaker in Europe, Infineon, is hiring more people in Vietnam and India

Due to the growing significance of South and Southeast Asia in global semiconductor and tech supply chains, leading European chipmaker Infineon is racing to hire more skilled workers in these regions.

In addition to hiring more people in India, which is already the German chipmaker's primary Asian research and development base, Infineon's managing director and president for Asia-Pacific, Chua Chee Seong, told Nikkei Asia that the company also intends to significantly increase the workforce at its new Vietnam office to "multiple hundreds" of engineers.

According to reports, Chua expressed his belief that South and Southeast Asia will become even more significant in the next few years in terms of chip talent and the chip supply chain. He went on to say that the area is perfect for effective operations and is comparatively neutral in the volatile geopolitical climate.

India is becoming more and more significant, according to Chua. Not only does the corporation already have 2,000 chip designers and software engineers working there, but the nation is also turning into a major destination for chips used in electronics and cars.

According to Chua, as investments increase, there is more competition in India for talent, so they had to find new places to open offices within the country.

According to Chua, a rising India appeared a lot like China two to three decades ago. 

He highlighted the potential for India to emulate China's current car market, which is estimated to be between 20 and 30 million units, specifically mentioning the automotive and motorcycle industries as particularly promising. 

According to Chua, there is also a huge growth potential for chips for electric two-wheelers and battery technology in India, a country with 20 million motorcycles.
