IBM Launches AI GovTech Innovation Center in Lucknow to Power the Next Era of Digital Governance

With strong government and academic partnerships, IBM strengthens its role in shaping AI-driven public services in India.

In a major step toward transforming public services through technology, IBM has inaugurated its AI GovTech Innovation Center in Lucknow, India. The new center highlights IBM’s growing commitment to making artificial intelligence a core pillar of modern governance.

As governments face rising public expectations and increasing volumes of data, AI is becoming essential for faster decision-making, better transparency, and improved service delivery. IBM’s new center will act as a collaborative hub where AI solutions can be designed, tested, and scaled for real-world government use.

The center was inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the presence of IBM Chairman and CEO Arvind Krishna and other senior leaders.

“AI will define the next era of government effectiveness and economic competitiveness,” said Arvind Krishna, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of IBM. He added that the Lucknow center combines IBM’s global AI expertise with strong local talent and academic partnerships to create measurable public impact.

During the launch, IBM signed two Memorandums of Understanding with the Government of Uttar Pradesh to advance AI-driven governance. The initiatives include building high-impact AI use cases and launching an AI literacy program for students and teachers under the AI-PRAGYA framework.

IBM is also collaborating with leading institutions such as IIT Kanpur to develop scalable AI solutions, including projects focused on air quality monitoring. With this launch, IBM reinforces its position as a trusted technology partner helping governments move from AI experimentation to real-world execution.
