UK Partners with Philippines to Advance Digital Education in the Country

The UK partners with the Philippines Department of Education to implement inclusive AI and climate resilient educational technology across the Philippines’ educational system.

The British Embassy in Manila recently announced its collaboration with the Philippines Department of Education (DepEd) to promote inclusive, evidence-based approaches of Educational Technology (EdTech) across the country. The partnership works to improve educational results from basic education onward while sustaining the educational system's ability to remain strong through time. This would equip students and institutions to face evolving challenges better. This partnership is being supported by the UK International Development and delivered through EdTech Hub to expertly guide and support the Philippines DepEd across three verticals:

National EdTech Policy: The partnership will help develop the National EdTech Policy that is to be used by the Philippines in the future. The DepEd Bureau of Learning and Delivery will coordinate the upcoming initiatives which involve establishing policy components and conducting monitoring activities to verify that educational technology is thoroughly researched and accessible to all students while meeting their unique educational requirements.

Climate and Learning Continuity Case Study: This comprises analyzing how different delivery methods can assist educational systems in maintaining operations during climate emergencies while building their ability to withstand future disruptions.

AI in Education: This initiative encourages experimenting with AI to improve the efficiency of administrative tasks while expanding AI capabilities across the government’s education sector.

Furthermore, this collaboration would reinforce the Philippines’ leadership in EdTech and help it achieve its goal of ensuring every child develops the requisite skills to thrive in a complex world marked by digital advancements and climate sensitivity. According to Secretary Sonny Angara of the Department of Education, Philippines, “This commitment reflects President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s vision for a Bagong Pilipinas, nurturing digital-savvy and future-ready Filipino learners who can keep pace with the world.” CIO Bulletin views this collaboration as being beneficial for the Philippines in terms of supporting traditional pedagogy in classrooms with the latest technologies, thereby setting a benchmark for its neighbors to emulate in their journeys towards advancing in the changing educational landscape.
