Hyderabad's Gachibowli Stadium is set to host the Rugby Premier League 2026, featuring six franchises and top international talent this June.
On April 6, Rugby India, in collaboration with GMR Sports, announced that the Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad would host the second edition of the Rugby Premier League from June 16 to 28, 2026. The League would be held in the same Rugby 7s format as the inaugural edition in Mumbai last year and feature all six franchises of the last edition. According to the organizers, fans would get the opportunity to witness engaging and competitive rugby matches, with the league bringing together leading Indian and international players in an exciting contest.
Furthermore, Jayesh Ranjan, IAS, Special Chief Secretary to the Government (Youth Advancement, Tourism, Culture, and Sports Department), Government of Telangana, welcomed the Rugby Premier League India to Hyderabad. He noted that Telangana’s long-term policy vision and institutional support for international partnerships have played a significant role in Hyderabad emerging as a global sporting destination. High-profile events, such as the RPL 2026, played a seminal role in increasing the state's tourism revenue, apart from enhancing urban visibility and boosting its sports economy.
Moreover, Rahul Bose, President of Rugby India, highlighted the league’s continued evolution and holistic contribution to the hosting state beyond visibility. He remarked that the RPL would strive to reach new heights by following the age-old adage of “do better, be better, and deliver better”. In his opinion, “Building a world-class property will never be enough. We will always strive to deliver a better product for our fans, do better by our sponsors, and last but not least, be better partners for our franchises, their owners, and their support staff. RPL 2026 at the Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad sets out to achieve all this and more. CIO Bulletin views this announcement as cementing Hyderabad’s position as a preferred sporting destination, with it having hosted premier marquee events in the recent past. The upcoming tournament presents a chance for spectators to witness an intense competition among teams for occupying the top spots of the Rugby Premier League table on the back of spirited individual and team performances.
