The Italian luxury house joins forces with tech giant Google to redefine wearable technology by 2027.
The world of high fashion is about to get a high-tech makeover. In a move that bridges the gap between the runway and the research lab, Gucci has officially confirmed a partnership with Google to develop a revolutionary pair of smart glasses. According to reports, this collaboration aims to blend Italian craftsmanship with cutting-edge artificial intelligence, targeting a market debut in 2027.
The project was recently highlighted by Kering CEO Luca de Meo, who envisions a future where luxury isn't just about what you wear, but how it helps you navigate the world. By utilizing Google’s Android XR platform, these smart glasses are expected to be lightweight enough for all-day wear while featuring built-in speakers, microphones, and cameras.
The strategy is clear: Gucci wants to move beyond traditional leather goods to lead the next wave of “intelligent” accessories. As noted by CIO Bulletin, this puts them in direct competition with the Meta and Ray-Ban alliance, proving that tech is the new “must-have” in luxury.
“The group aims to launch Gucci-branded AI smart glasses in 2027,” stated Luca de Meo, signaling a bold shift in Kering’s long-term business strategy. For the everyday consumer, this means the future of AI won't just live on a phone screen, it will sit right on the bridge of your nose, looking as stylish as ever.
