Klaus-Dieter Axt has been named Secretary-General by COCIR to reinforce its leadership and support the growth of European medical technology.
COCIR, the trade group representing the medical imaging, radiotherapy, as well as health ICT and electromedical sectors in Europe, has shared we will have a new leader. Annabel Seebohm, the current Secretary-General, will end her term in May and Klaus-Dieter Axt will succeed her.
Axt comes to COCIR from EUnited, where he functioned as Executive Director since 2021. There is a significant shift ahead for the European medical technology sector and his appointment arrives as it handles regulatory updates and economic and health policy changes.
Jan-Willem Scheijgrond, President of COCIR, gave special thanks to Seebohm for her effective leadership when the organization was going through big changes. She improved the way we focused on strategy and expanded our influence in medical technology, he noted.
Among other things, Axt will work on updating the EU Medical Device Regulation, creating the EU Cardiovascular Health Plan and making progress towards the European Health Data Space. Ensuring technology is central to health progress in the EU; he wants to help the Innovative Health Initiative to succeed.
“It’s an honour for me to head COCIR and to speak for Europe’s medical technology industry, I look forward to working with policymakers to strengthen and improve our sector”, said Axt.
Axt will start taking on responsibilities from this June and will have the full role in September 2025.
