Microsoft plans to invest $500M

Through its investment in Quebec, Microsoft Canada hopes to expand its partnerships that offer training and other resources to increase its local cloud infrastructure by 750 percent.

Microsoft announced on Wednesday that it has made a significant investment in digital technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), and cybersecurity with the goal of enhancing its ability to operate in the Canadian province of Quebec.

The additional $500 million investment will be used to grow Microsoft's hyperscale cloud servers and AI  infrastructure, as well as the company's digital infrastructure presence in Quebec.

According to the firm, this investment would boost Microsoft's local cloud platform in Canada by 750 percent over the course of the next two years.

A recent research the firm commissioned with consultant Ernst & Young, Microsoft further stated that its presence in Quebec already supports over 1,000 workers, 3,200 partners, significant cloud infrastructure accounts, and over 57,000 employment.

According to Ernst & Young, Microsoft has already invested $300 million Canadian dollars, or roughly $219 million, in Quebec over the course of the previous three fiscal years. This $500 million investment is on top of that amount.

Microsoft anticipates that this investment will accelerate the pace of AI innovation and increase its computer capacity in Quebec by around 240 percent during the next three years. This entails collaborating on several projects with business executives to offer the educational materials, credentials, and other tools required to enhance the abilities required to propel the regional digital economy.
