Microsoft rolls out version 25H2 with a focus on security, performance, and seamless updates.
Microsoft has officially begun rolling out its latest Windows 11 update, version 25H2, bringing users a lean yet powerful upgrade designed to strengthen security and improve performance.
The update, now available through Windows Update, comes as a lightweight download known as an “enablement package.” This means installation is quick, while still delivering the latest features introduced earlier in version 24H2. “Both versions share the same code base and servicing branch, making the process smoother for users,” explained John Cable, Microsoft’s Vice President of Program Management for Windows servicing and delivery.
One of the standout improvements in 25H2 is its enhanced security framework. According to Cable, the update includes major advancements in build and runtime vulnerability detection, supported by AI-assisted secure coding. These upgrades align with Microsoft’s commitment to a strong Security Development Lifecycle (SDL), ensuring Windows 11 continues to evolve against modern cyber threats.
The update also trims down legacy components, removing PowerShell 2.0 and the Windows Management Instrumentation Command-line (WMIC), making the operating system lighter and more efficient.
To get the 25H2 update today, users simply need to enable the “get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” option in Windows Update. However, Microsoft notes that devices with compatibility issues may be placed on a safeguard hold until fixes are available.
The rollout will gradually expand over the coming months, with Microsoft providing updates on potential issues through its Windows release health hub.
