Empowering modern developers with integrated AI, advanced cryptography, and enterprise-grade tools.
Oracle, at an ongoing conference in Redwood Shores, California, on March 17, released the latest version of the world’s highest-rated programming language and development platform, Java 26. This offers several improvements, including increased developer productivity, simplifying the language, and assisting developers in incorporating AI and cryptography functionality into their applications. Also accompanying the release of Java 26 is the Java Verified Portfolio (JVP) that comprises a set of Oracle-supported tools, libraries, frameworks, and services. Some of these assets are a Java-based UI framework called JavaFX, a Java Platform extension for Microsoft’s Visual Studio Code editor, and the Helidon Java framework for microservices. Additionally, Oracle has proposed aligning Helidon’s release cycle with its core product, Java, and designating the former as an Open Java Development Kit (JDK) project.
Furthermore, the JVP offers support and licensing for a developer’s broader development stack with more technologies to be added to the portfolio over time. According to Georges Saab, Senior VP, Oracle Java Platform and chair, Open JDK governing board, “JVP provides an enterprise-grade set of components that are fully supported and governed by Oracle, with roadmap transparency and life cycle management.” The JDK 26 ushers in ten significant enhancements, including:
Innovations to the Java language
Better security features
Advancements in performance and runtime
Library improvements
Project Leyden Enhancements
Targeted maintenance and clean-up of JDK
Several Non-JEP JDK Enhancements
Reintroduction of JavaFX Commercial Support to meet Industry Demand
New Oracle JVP for a curated set of Enterprise-Grade Tools
Support for Global Java Community with Innovation in the Cloud
Facilitating developers’ product innovation with constant six-month release cycles
Thus, CIO Bulletin views the release of Java 26 as a positive development that can catalyze innovation and excellence in product development, setting the platform for technological advancement.
