Within a few days of its introduction, Instagram Threads reached a user base of 100 million.

According to recent data, the app has already surpassed one-fifth of Twitter's global weekly active user base and 86 times that of Truth Social, which is the largest Twitter rival in the United States and had a weekly active user base of 1 million as of last week.

The new information was provided by the app intelligence company data.ai and comes after another examination of Threads' initial traction, which revealed a slight decline in usage. Late last week, Threads' daily active users decreased on Tuesday and Wednesday — down about 20% from Saturday, according to the app intelligence company Sensor Tower. According to the company, time spent decreased by 50% from 20 minutes to 10 minutes.

Data.ai notes that Threads' momentum is still going strong. According to current estimates, the app has amassed over 150 million downloads, which is 5.5 times faster than Niantic's Pokémon Go, which had previously held the record for the largest app launch title since its debut in July 2016 .

The company also discovered that, with 33% of all global downloads, India, not the United States, is leading in terms of new app downloads. Brazil comes next (22%), followed by the United States (16%), Mexico (8%), and Japan (5%), in that order. To date, however, regulatory barriers relating to privacy issues and data collection practices prevent Threads from being made available in the EU. Even Meta recently started preventing EU users from using VPNs to circumvent the block on Threads.
