Google Pay Flex SBI card Launches Digital Credit

A new digital credit card merges UPI payments, instant rewards, and flexible repayments inside one smartphone app.

SBI Card and Google Pay have joined forces to launch the Google Pay Flex SBI card, bringing a digital credit experience directly to smartphone users. The main goal of the new product is to make daily payments easier by combining the features of credit cards and mobile applications.

What makes this digital credit tool so special for everyday shoppers? This is due to the incorporation of the card in the Google Pay system. It allows users to get the card in a matter of minutes without any paperwork, monitor transactions, and make repayments through the app. Available on both RuPay and Visa networks, the RuPay variant allows cardholders to link credit directly to UPI for instant merchant payments across the nation.

According to reports by CIO Bulletin, every transaction earns customers reward points known as Stars, where one Star equals one Rupee. Up to 18,000 Stars can be earned by users per year and can be cashed immediately at the time of check out. It is a low joining fee card of Rs 499, but that will be waived off if the annual spend exceeds Rs 1,00,000. Additionally, users will get flexible options for paying their dues.

Highlighting the vision behind this launch, Salila Pande, Managing Director and CEO of SBI Card, stated, "The launch of the Google Pay Flex SBI Card reflects our focus on expanding digital payment options for customers. By combining SBI Card's credit card capabilities with Google Pay's digital platform, we aim to offer a payment solution that integrates rewards, flexible repayment options, and digital account management."

Can digital credit cards replace cash for daily errands? This collaboration will help credit gain more acceptance in small towns where UPI is very popular, say financial analysts. According to CIO Bulletin, as the use of mobile wallets increases, financial institutions will keep depending on such partnerships to add value immediately for tech-savvy customers.

Key Highlights

  • Instant digital application with zero physical paperwork required.

  • UPI integration on the RuPay network for everyday transactions.

  • Reward program offering up to 18,000 Stars annually.
