Jamshedpur Students Effort to Promote Waste Management

Jamshedpur students launch "Swachhta Samvaad", a collaborative effort to promote cleanliness, waste management, and environmental awareness

In a groundbreaking initiative, students from Jamshedpur schools have launched Swachhta Samvaad, a unique book dedicated to cleanliness, hygiene, and waste management. This project, spearheaded by TATA Steel UISL in collaboration with Potli Productions, supports the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, aiming to instill environmental consciousness among the city's youth.

The journey began with over 3,000 students participating in a city-wide essay competition, sharing their ideas on cleanliness challenges and solutions. From this, 43 students were selected to attend a creative writing workshop led by Deepali Raina, Founder of Potli Productions. The workshop emphasized storytelling and effective communication, enabling the young participants to craft compelling narratives featured in Swachhta Samvaad.

The book covers diverse themes such as reducing landfills, the "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" philosophy, and bio-methanation as a way to turn waste into resources. Poems, stories, and essays, including pieces like "Festivals and New Clothes" and "The Dustbin Diaries," creatively highlight these topics. A graphic novel, Toxic Doom, adds an engaging touch to the collection, tackling environmental themes through visuals.

Readers also get an inside look at Jamshedpur’s waste management practices, featuring interviews with safai karmacharis and practical tips for everyday cleanliness. To keep learning interactive, the book offers activities like riddles, games, and fun exercises on waste segregation.
