Red Hat Launches Digital Sovereignty Tool to Help Organizations Regain IT Control

New open-source assessment platform guides businesses toward greater independence and operational freedom

Red Hat has introduced a new Digital Sovereignty Readiness Assessment tool designed to help organizations understand how much control they truly have over their digital environments.

Digital sovereignty, according to Red Hat, is not just about meeting regulations. It is about giving organizations the freedom to decide where their data lives, how their systems run, and who manages them. Yet many companies today operate within complex IT setups filled with closed systems, limited flexibility, and disconnected data, making independence difficult.

The newly launched self-service tool evaluates organizations across seven critical areas, including data sovereignty, operational control, technical independence, open-source awareness, executive oversight, and managed services. Once completed, users receive a maturity score that places them into one of four stages: Foundation, Developing, Strategic, or Advanced. These stages reflect how prepared an organization is to operate independently and securely in the digital world.

Beyond scoring, the platform offers practical next steps and guided questions to help leadership teams strengthen weak areas. In a move that reinforces transparency, Red Hat has made the tool’s framework open source, allowing organizations to see exactly how assessments are calculated.

By doing so, the company aims to move away from what it calls “blind trust” in proprietary systems. The tool is now publicly available, giving organizations a structured path to build a more resilient and self-determined digital future.
