Neura’s 4NE-1 showcases diverse abilities as Nvidia supports humanoid robotics innovation.
German robotics company Neura has introduced its latest humanoid robot, 4NE-1, demonstrating its capabilities in tasks such as ironing and moving boxes. This release coincides with Nvidia’s unveiling of new humanoid development tools at the Siggraph conference in Colorado.
Neura, alongside a select group of companies including Boston Dynamics and Figure, received early access to Nvidia’s advanced robotics tools. The video released by Neura highlights 4NE-1 performing various activities, though it’s noted that promotional videos often offer an idealized view of a robot's capabilities.
During a recent humanoid robotics panel at Automate, Neura CEO David Reger discussed the 4NE-1 and the company’s collaboration with Nvidia. "By combining Neura’s cognitive robotics solutions with Nvidia’s advanced computing and simulation platforms, we will accelerate humanoid robotics development," Reger stated.
The promotional video blends simulation with real-world scenarios but should be viewed with caution, as it may not fully represent the robot's performance in practical applications. Humanoid robots, especially those made by Neura, are now mostly in the pilot stage of development, with a wider release still to come.
CEO Jensen Huang's declaration of Nvidia's dedication to humanoid robotics indicates a strong level of support for the field. Huang highlighted that Nvidia's platforms and AI models are helping to advance robotics, calling it "the next wave of AI."
