NASA, SpaceX and Northrop Grumman scurry on a space station resupply mission to deliver science experiments, technology and future exploration supplies.
NASA, Northrop Grumman, and SpaceX are quickly completing the next commercial resupply mission to the International Space Station (ISS) to utilize the launch opportunities fully. It is now scheduled to launch at 6:11 p.m. EDT on Sunday, Sept. 14, out of Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida using a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.
More than 11,000 pounds of space research equipment, essential supplies and science experiments will be transported into the orbiting lab by the Cygnus XL spacecraft. CRM spacecraft have the capability to deliver key payloads such as semiconductor crystals and technology to build higher-capacity cryogenic fuel tanks, UV light to prevent biofilm growth and essential materials. It will also present the research pharmaceutical crystal material meant to treat cancer and other diseases.
NASA expects the Cygnus XL to dock with the ISS on Wednesday, Sept. 17. This mission recognizes the importance of space collaboration to the science discipline and future exploration of the moon and Mars.
ISS has been an innovation in the field of space and has contributed to the discovery of many innovations and technologies that could not have been developed on the ground in almost 25 years.
