Reigning champions retain iconic papaya colors as Lando Norris carries No. 1 into a season of sweeping rule changes
McLaren has officially revealed the livery of its 2026 Formula 1 challenger, the MCL40, marking the team’s first step into what many are calling a reset year for the sport. While the regulations may be new, McLaren’s identity remains unchanged.
The British team has chosen to retain its signature papaya orange design, complemented by black accents and subtle teal highlights. The car will make its first on-track appearance during a filming day on February 10, ahead of pre-season testing in Bahrain starting February 11. The 2026 F1 season will then open with the Australian Grand Prix from March 6–8.
This year is significant for Formula 1, as sweeping technical changes effectively level the playing field. Despite entering the season as defending constructors’ champions, McLaren knows past success offers no guarantees.
“2026 marks a new challenge as we take on a new era of Formula 1 regulations,” said McLaren F1 Team Principal Andrea Stella. He added that while the team has learned valuable lessons from recent success, “the whole grid is restarting from zero and our past achievements count for nothing.”
The team will once again field world champion Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, a pairing that helped McLaren secure last year’s title. Norris, fresh off his first drivers’ championship, will race with the prestigious No. 1 on his car.
With a proven driver lineup, Mercedes power backing, and renewed determination, McLaren enters 2026 ready to defend its crown in what promises to be a thrilling season.
