The political challenges and venue conflicts are risking the stability of IPL through their affecting teams, investors, and the sports ecosystem of India.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru are again uncertain of which home venue they will be since it highlights more underlying governance issues in the sports system in India. After the stampede last year, which followed as a result of RCB winning the IPL title, the franchise coming back to M Chinnaswamy Stadium was supposed to be a new start. But still, even though a new management has emerged in the Karnataka State Cricket Association and new strict safety standard operating procedures have been implemented, adherence issues have remained.

The uncertainty about the issue is in an opportune moment when United Spirits Ltd. is undertaking a fundamental review of its investment in RCB and prospective acquirers, including industrialist Adar Poonawala, are interested. The instability regarding venue allocation poses some doubts to investors regarding professional sports leagues with respect to long-term valuation.
The same is happening to the Rajasthan Royals, who are evaluating alternative venues to play as their home, including Pune and Guwahati, because of the long friction with the state governments. These frequent controversies have triggered the intervention of the Board of Control of Cricket in India, considering the fact that long-term political quarrels may bring down Brand IPL. Devoid of structural resolutions, Indian sports can still struggle with the falling stakeholder confidence and fan discontent.
