Will a New Digital Portal Completely Transform Wind Power India?

Supply Chain Management

WT MARUT Game Changer for Wind power India

The nation unveils its first dedicated supply chain platform to unlock massive green energy potential and drive massive global exports.

India is currently sitting on a goldmine of clean energy, but a massive shift is underway to finally unlock its full potential. While the nation ranks as the world's fourth-largest market for wind energy, it has tapped into less than five percent of its staggering 1,164 GW wind capacity. To bridge this gap, the Union Ministry for New and Renewable Energy recently launched a groundbreaking digital platform called the WT-MARUT portal. This first-of-its-kind supply chain management system is designed to streamline domestic manufacturing, track component sourcing, and position wind power India as a dominant force on the global stage.

The strategic launch, captured in reports by CIO Bulletin, comes on the heels of a record-breaking year. India installed an unprecedented 6.1 GW of new wind capacity in the 2025-26 fiscal year, marking a phenomenal 46 percent year-on-year growth.

Powering the Future of Green Energy

The WT-MARUT portal acts as a central hub to connect suppliers, ensure regulatory compliance, and keep critical industry data securely hosted within the country. Experts believe this digital backbone will help the nation scale up from its current 56.1 GW capacity to the 100 GW required by 2030 for a sustainable energy transition.

Key highlights of India's wind energy momentum include:

  • Surging Exports: Wind component exports crossed ₹12,000 crore in FY 2025-26, a nearly 50 percent jump from the previous year.

  • Global Ambitions: The country aims to capture 10 percent of global wind turbine exports by 2030, scaling up to 20 percent by 2040.

  • Massive Manufacturing Base: India already boasts an impressive 24 GW of annual manufacturing capacity for critical components like blades, towers, and gearboxes.

During the unveiling at the Global Wind Day Conference in Goa, Girish Tanti, Chairman of the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA), highlighted the immense economic opportunity ahead.

“India has built significant manufacturing capabilities and is well positioned to emerge as a major global supplier,” Tanti stated.

With the right digital infrastructure now in place, the country is well on its way to hitting its 2030 climate goals while powering the rest of the world.
