A search is underway for missing Titanic tourist submarine

A search and rescue operation has started for the five missing crewmembers onboard the Titanic tourist submarine with around 70–96 hours of oxygen left.

A tourist submarine out to explore the titanic wreak lost all contact less than two hours into the dive, as reported by the US Coast Guard.

The tour, which is organized by OceanGate, costs $250,000 per ticket and includes an eight-day trip with occasional dives to the shipwreck that lies 3,800m (12,500ft) deep. The tour firm has stated that they are looking at all possible options to rescue the five people onboard.

The US and Canadian government agencies, both naval and commercial, are helping the firm in the rescue operation.

The rescue mission is being conducted from Boston, Massachusetts, even though the Titanic wreck lies around 435 miles south of St. John’s, Newfoundland.

The missing submarine is supposedly OceanGate’s Titan submersible; it is the size of a truck and has the capacity to hold five people, and the current five people missing include a captain, a content expert, and three ticketed passengers. The Titan is known to usually dive with a four-day supply of oxygen for emergencies.

In a conference on Monday, US Coast Guard, Rear Adm. John Mauger said that they anticipate there being between 70 and 96 hours of oxygen available at the moment.

The rescue mission is being taken personally by all search teams, and they are doing everything in their capacity to bring those onboard safely home.
