Hoppers made history as the best opening of an original animated film, with a strong showing in its first week since release. It ranked first at the US box office, raking in $46 million from 4,000 theatres, while it made $42 million from international bookings. Cumulatively, its total revenue amounted to $88 million. The movie, directed by Daniel Chong, also surpassed Pixar’s previous releases like 2022’s Onward and 2023’s Elemental. It cemented its position in international markets by occupying the first position in Europe and Latin America as well. Furthermore, Hoppers generated more revenue than last year’s ‘Weapons’, which reported a collection of $71 million.
Moreover, Hopper’s strong showing at the box office justifies its reported $150 million production budget. The movie also redeems Pixar’s standing in the industry following last year’s ‘Elio’, which did not perform as expected, ranking as the studio’s worst opening ever. With Hopper, Pixar regains its foothold in the original films category, with its recent success attributed to sequels and franchises alone. Industry observers have explained the film’s success in terms of its riveting storyline and the energetic humor it radiates.
The film's hallmark is the successful depiction of environmental themes which emphasize the need for environmental protection and show the critical need to restore nature through sustainable solutions that resolve complex conflicts between humans and wild animals. The public and critics both evaluate Hooper's work positively, with the film receiving 7.7/10 rating on IMDb, 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and 3.9/5 rating on Letterboxd. According to Comscore ratings, 'Scream 7' managed to achieve second place at the North American box office after earning $17.3 million during its opening week.
