The Toyota Tacoma production move to Texas will see the automaker invest $3.6 billion to relocate pickup truck production from Mexico, expanding its U.S. manufacturing operations and supply chain.
The Toyota Tacoma production move to Texas marks a major manufacturing shift as Toyota Motor invests $3.6 billion to relocate production of its popular Tacoma midsize pickup truck from Mexico to San Antonio, Texas. By 2030, the investment is anticipated to build a second car assembly line, generate 2,000 jobs in the United States and nearly double the size of the 2.7 million-square-foot plant, according to the automaker.
According to the reports tracked by CIO Bulletin, Toyota has announced plans to invest up to $10 billion more domestically in the United States through 2030 than originally anticipated. It comes in less than a week after the Trump administration announced that it would conduct yearly reviews rather than prolong its trilateral trade agreement with Canada and Mexico.
"Toyota remains committed to its operations throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, and encourages a quick resolution to USMCA to make the North American region globally competitive." - Toyota.
As Tacoma production moves from Tijuana to Texas for the next four years, a Toyota representative stated that the business is "maintaining its operations in Mexico," but she declined to provide further information. According to her, the firm intends to keep making Tacoma pickups at a different Guanajuato plant in Mexico.
Since the San Antonio plant's groundbreaking in 2003, Toyota, which employs 48,000 people in the United States, claims to have invested $8.3 billion. The largest automaker in the world, Toyota, may be able to overtake all other automakers in U.S. sales with the help of increasing investment and production capacity.
According to Cox Automotive, Toyota is expected to close the sales gap with General Motors, the country's biggest automaker, this year as hybrid cars gain popularity and all-electric cars struggle.
Washington announced last week that the trade agreement will now be evaluated annually, a move that is anticipated to affect investor sentiment even if the accord is still in effect for another ten years.
