Google Cloud Strengthens Sovereign Cloud Push in India Amid Rising AI Demand

Enterprise and public sector firms turn to isolated, secure cloud solutions to safeguard critical data.

Google Cloud is expanding its sovereign cloud capabilities in India, targeting organizations that require the highest levels of data security and isolation. The move caters to enterprises, government agencies, and banks that need air-gapped cloud environments—fully disconnected from external networks—to protect sensitive information.

“Google Cloud can support all public cloud scenarios,” said Sashikumar Sreedharan, MD of Google Cloud India. “In certain government or banking applications, firms need complete isolation. Our Google Distributed Cloud Hosted (GDCH) combines on-premises infrastructure with cloud and AI services, tailored to each use case rather than plug-and-play solutions.”

The GDCH air-gapped cloud operates without internet or external cloud connectivity, ensuring that infrastructure, services, and APIs remain completely isolated. This offering is part of Google Cloud’s broader push to help Indian organizations embrace AI-driven business transformation.

Google Cloud’s global momentum is also visible in its growing deal pipeline. In early 2025, the company signed as many $1 billion-plus contracts as in all of 2024, reflecting strong demand for cloud and AI capabilities. In India, sectors such as BFSI, healthcare, automotive, retail, and e-commerce are leveraging AI to streamline workflows, optimize operations, and unlock new business models.
