Thailand Launches E-Learning Course to Strengthen Ethical Migration Reporting

New digital curriculum blends smart learning design with responsible journalism to reshape how migration stories are told.

Thailand has introduced a new e-learning course aimed at transforming how migration is reported across the country. Developed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Thailand and Social Lab – Migration in Media, the digital program focuses on building ethical, evidence-based journalism through accessible online education.

Launched on February 20 in Bangkok, the course reflects more than two years of collaboration. Rather than traditional classroom training, the initiative uses a thoughtfully designed digital learning structure of carefully built modules that guide learners step by step through the complexities of migration reporting.

Mrs. Maratee Nalita Andamo, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Information at the MFA, highlighted the importance of responsible storytelling. “Accurate and ethical reporting helps the public better understand migration and the people behind the statistics,” she said.

Thailand remains a major migration hub in Southeast Asia, with millions of migrants contributing to its economy. However, migration stories are often misunderstood or oversimplified. The new self-paced e-learning course addresses this gap with clear modules covering migration fundamentals, protection of vulnerable groups, and ethical media practices tailored to Thailand’s media environment.

Available free of charge on the Global Migration Media Academy platform from March 2026, the course will be offered in Thai and English and provides a certificate upon completion.

By investing in structured digital education, Thailand is strengthening the foundation of responsible journalism while preparing its media community for the 2026 International Migration Review Forum.
