New York experiences life-threatening flooding on Sunday

On Sunday night, New York’s Hudson Valley experienced a dangerous amount of flooding caused by heavy rain.

New York’s Hudson Valley saw life-threatening flooding that was caused by heavy rain on Sunday night. The floods according to reports has caused at least one fatality, along with busy roads, and necessitated road closures.  

Before the storm made its way into Massachusetts, the National Weather Service issued flash flood advisories for Connecticut's Stamford and Greenwich cities. Some regions, according to forecasters, might receive up to 5 inches (12 cm) of rain.

A woman in her 30s who drowned after being swept away while attempting to flee her home was being sought after by rescue crews in the Hudson Valley of New York. Two more individuals got away.

The storm dumped up to 8 inches (20 cm) of rain on the region. However, according to officials, the storm had already caused damage of tens of millions of dollars.

While some areas of New York have been impacted more severely than others, officials have warned that cities to the east of the state should prepare for flash flooding and torrential downpours.

The city's emergency alert system stated that the persistent rain might result in "life-threatening flooding to basements" and advised citizens to "prepare now to move to higher ground if needed."

State Route 9W was inundated, and portions of the Palisades Interstate Parkway had to be closed due to flooding, according to a statement from the New York State Police. The public was asked to stay off the parkway by the police.
