Logitech partners with iFixit, lets users’ self-repair peripherals

To tackle the threat of e-waste, Logitech entered a partnership with iFixit to offer repair kits for key computer parts.

In the announcement post, Logitech claimed that e-waste was fueled by high consumption rates, few repair options, and the short life cycle of modern electronics. In order to address the issue, the computer accessories manufacturer aims to extend the lifespan of its devices by offering first-party replacement units.

Things will start off small, as computer mice from the MX Master and MX Anywhere lines will be the only repairable products at launch. Between the two series, 11 models of computer mice will be covered. Therefore, at the very least, customers will have a decent number of repairable options.

Spare parts and repair kits will be available as Fix Kits or as standalone kits from late summer 2023 in the iFixit Logitech Repair Hub. Everything required to complete the repair will also be contained in the kits, including all necessary tools such as a precision bit set.

Even though the Repair Hub is currently open for customers to visit, they can’t purchase anything at the moment. Only replacement guides for the computer mice are available on the site.

Despite iFixit’s program yet to launch, Logitech is seemingly working on expanding support to many other devices. A simple scroll down to the bottom of the website reveals entries for devices from keyboards and cameras to headphones and even products from Logitech’s G Series.

It’s encouraging to witness Logitech joining the likes of Valve and Samsung in offering device repairs.
