IAB introduces invoice API specifications to modernize MarTech payments, enhance efficiency, and standardize data and streamline digital advertising financial processes.
The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) has published its Digital Advertising Invoice API Specifications, which it hopes will address long-running payment inefficiencies within the digital ad ecosystem. The project is a massive leap toward modern MarTech, aimed at replacing the old manual invoicing practice with a unified, machine-readable standard.
The new API specification was created in partnership with Mediaocean on its Prisma platform, and it brings a system-agnostic framework to automate the exchange of invoice data to reconcile faster and speed up payment cycles. The comment period lasts until August 11, 2025.
Angelina Eng, IAB’s VP of Measurement, Attribution & Data Center said, “This is indicative of our desire to update the digital advertising plumbing to tech-enabled, scalable solutions.”
The API is expected to enhance MarTech functions by increasing interoperability with current financial systems, standardization of invoice data, and efficiency of the payment processing system. This will help marketers and publishers alike to have quicker and more efficient billing as well as better visibility over their cash flow.
With the constantly growing development of the MarTech industry, the initiative of IAB is another notable step on the way towards creating more resilient and transparent digital advertising infrastructure.
