Amazon is reportedly expected to meet up with the FTC as the US prepares to file an antitrust suit against the company.
According to a source, Amazon.com and the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) will meet the following week to discuss a potential long-awaited antitrust lawsuit against the retailer.
When the government decided to look into allegations of antitrust violations against Amazon, Google, Facebook, and Apple during the administration of former President Donald Trump, the FTC started looking into the company. The business has come under fire for, among other things, allegedly favoring its own goods and disfavoring outside vendors on its marketplace. Amazon has disputed any wrongdoing.
According to a different source, Amazon is anticipated to argue against the FTC bringing an antitrust lawsuit against the company during the meetings with the commissioners. After thorough investigations, the FTC frequently consults with businesses before deciding whether to file a lawsuit. On the scheduled meeting, the FTC declined to comment.
Amazon has been accused of a number of things by a large number of detractors, including favoring its goods over those of independent sellers on the Amazon platform and requiring sellers on Prime to specifically utilize Amazon's logistics and delivery services.
Other detractors have claimed that Amazon overstepped its bounds by forbidding major competitors from running advertisements against its goods on the Amazon platform and by using below-cost prices on goods and services to retain customers, including with Prime.
The company, which employs about 1.5 million people worldwide, has also been charged with misusing its influence over workers and driving down wages.
