Amazon Accelerates Robotics to Replace 600,000 Jobs

Amazon intends a massive expansion in robotics by 2033, automating away operations and transforming the American labor market.

According to internal reports that the New York Times managed to acquire, Amazon is planning a significant robotics redesign that might wipe out as many as 600,000 jobs in the United States by 2033. The technology company targets automating about three-quarters of the processes in the operations, which will ultimately save it about 12.6 billion annually.

Ever since Amazon purchased robotics company Kiva Systems in 2012, the process of warehouse automation has been significantly progressing. The firm already has in purpose well above one million robots and 1.6 million human workers mostly involved in logistics and warehousing. As new developments come around, it might not take very long before these robots will be able to deal with the package delivery and other complex tasks.

Although critics fear mass layoffs, Amazon continues to say that its robotics programs will offer employment opportunities in the maintenance, programming, and system management fields. The company also refuted claims that it intends to evade employing such words as "automation" or "AI" in the current life of the community, as it remains dedicated to actively engaging in communities.

Economists warn that the increased use of robotics at Amazon would become a model the U.S. workforce uses as the company automates its operations, triggering a wave of automation in industries.
