Boardwalk Robotics introduces Alex, a versatile humanoid robot designed to enhance efficiency in manufacturing, logistics, and maintenance.
Boardwalk Robotics has officially launched Alex, its latest commercial humanoid robot designed to revolutionize manufacturing, food processing, and maintenance tasks. Unlike traditional humanoids, Alex does not feature legs, reflecting Boardwalk's strategy to optimize for cost and practical utility in the near term. Instead, Alex focuses on advanced manipulation capabilities and operates from a stable base, which enhances safety and efficiency.
Alex, developed entirely in-house by Boardwalk Robotics, benefits from extensive research and knowledge acquired through their partnership with IHMC. This collaboration has brought significant advancements in dynamic locomotion and manipulation technologies. The robot’s design emphasizes a stationary pedestal, which allows it to perform tasks without the complexities associated with legged movement.
Targeting industries like logistics and food processing, Boardwalk aims to streamline operations with Alex's advanced manipulation skills. The robot’s first pilots are underway in aviation, showcasing its potential across various sectors. Boardwalk’s CEO, Michael Morin, highlights the company’s commitment to educating customers about integrating humanoid robots into their operations.
Researchers interested in Alex can purchase the robot now, while Boardwalk is also seeking commercial partners for further pilot programs.
