Healthcare meets technology to provide real-time decisions, simplifying the process for doctors and patients alike.
Blue Shield of California has partnered with Salesforce to tackle one of healthcare’s most frustrating challenges: the delay in prior authorizations. By integrating Salesforce's Health Cloud, they are creating a groundbreaking platform that allows doctors to get prior authorization answers in near real-time, reducing delays from days to minutes.
This innovative solution will streamline over 20 outdated systems into one seamless process. Instead of relying on slow, manual methods like faxing, physicians will be able to submit requests directly from their electronic health records during appointments. Patients will receive quick updates through the Blue Shield app, ensuring transparency throughout the process.
In cases where additional clinical consultation is needed, doctors will be notified instantly, reducing the wait from several days to just a few hours. The new system not only aims to speed up care but also connects members to personalized health support. If a member requires a device like a glucose monitor, for example, Blue Shield’s care teams will proactively reach out with tailored resources.
CEO Paul Markovich emphasizes that prior authorization should no longer be a barrier to care. With this collaboration, Blue Shield and Salesforce are setting a new standard, making healthcare as simple and efficient as using a credit card while ensuring the highest quality of care for members.
