SAP introduces Sovereign Cloud On-Site, increasing EU data sovereignty with secure and customer-controlled workloads and a EUR20 billion investment in digital autonomy.
SAP has introduced its Sovereign Cloud On-Site offering, which allows customers the ability to operate workloads fully in their own data centers to achieve increased data sovereignty. The relocation is based on the international implementation of the SAP Sovereign Cloud platform.
Under this service, workloads will be handled in customer-approved datacenters by local SAP or certified staff, but data handling, logging, and key management will be controlled by the customer. Third-party providers must also adhere to requirements related to sovereignty and supply chain risk.
SAP, too, has introduced its Sovereign Cloud Infrastructure-as-a-Service on a global basis, with particular emphasis on supporting European Union (EU) businesses to execute ERP and AI workloads without relying on U.S.-based infrastructure vendors. Not only will this ensure compliance with EU data protection laws, but it will also enhance the local independence of online services.
SAP also announced the Delos Cloud, a German public sector solution aimed at addressing the high-information security needs of the nation.
Europe, according to SAP Sovereign Cloud President Martin Merz, needs secure, scalable and future-ready sovereignty with the initiative. SAP wants to invest EUR20 billion in the creation of new digital sovereignty products in the EU and the world.
This is a strategic focus that aims to emphasize the role of SAP in aiding digital resilience as well as providing enterprises with the flexibility of deployable models.
