NASA is set spacewalk

NASA astronauts Jasmin Moghbeli and Loral O'Hara had been authorized by mission managers to embark on a nearly seven-hour spacewalk on Wednesday, starting at 8:05 a.m. EDT. The two changed out the hardware that allows the orbiting lab's solar arrays to follow the Sun and remove radio communications equipment. At 6:30 a.m., NASA TV will start airing spacewalk coverage on the agency's website and app.

Commander Andreas Mogensen from the European Space Agency and Satoshi Furukawa from Japan Aerospace Exploration joined the pair for the spacewalk preparations, which lasted the entire day. Mogensen helped Moghbeli and O'Hara with the temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiratory checks as they began the day with routine medical exams. Furukawa called a last preparedness meeting with the three astronauts, going over the spacewalk protocols and sending a call to ground personnel.

Inside the Quest airlock, where they will start their spacewalk tomorrow, Moghbeli and O'Hara also prepared their equipment and spacesuits. This spacewalk, which will be the 12th at the space station this year, will be the first for both astronauts.

In the Roscosmos section of the space station, the three cosmonauts remained concentrated on their daily tasks of science and maintenance. In addition, the three completed their cleanup duties from the spacewalk on Wednesday.
