WhatsApp Brings Smarter Storage Control with Per-Chat Management on Android and iOS

WhatsApp is testing a new feature that lets users manage space more easily by cleaning up media from individual chats.

WhatsApp is working on a smarter way to help users free up space on their phones. The company has started testing a per-chat storage management feature that allows people to view and delete media directly from specific conversations, without digging through the app’s main settings.

As reported by WABetaInfo, the new tool is available for a limited number of beta testers on both Android and iOS. On iPhones, it appears in the latest beta version 25.31.10.70, released through the TestFlight app.

The feature adds a new option inside each chat’s information screen, where users can see how much storage a particular chat is using. From there, they can review photos, videos, and documents in a simple grid view arranged by file size. Sorting options like “Newest,” “Oldest,” and “Largest” make it easy to identify space-hogging files.

Much like WhatsApp’s existing storage manager, the new tool supports bulk deletion, handy for clearing out unneeded media in just a few taps. It also lets users star important things so they can find them easily later.

Right now, only a small group of testers can access the update. WhatsApp is expected to roll it out more widely once it finishes security and testing performance and gathers feedback from early users.
