Thai Airways reorganises its aviation fleet to limit the types of aircraft, simplify the operations, and grow to 150 aircraft by 2033.
Thai Airways is going further in its quest to streamline its aviation operation by cutting on the aircraft types and increasing the fleet. Chai Eamsiri, the chief executive officer, stated that the company has already reduced the number of the types of aircrafts it operates. It flew eight plane types previously, but it flies six now and in 2033, it will fly four only.
According to ch-aviation data, Thai Airways currently operates 79 aircraft of various models, including A320-200s, A330-300s, A350-900s, B777s and B787s. The carrier no longer operates A380-800s and B747-400s it previously had.
Eamsiri tells us that the large airline will operate a fleet of 150 aircraft by 2033, with a majority being B787s, A350-900s, B777-300ERs, and Airbus narrowbodies. The purpose of the change is to simplify aviation logistics and maintenance friendliness. The goal of the change is to make aviation logistics easier to manage and more efficient for maintenance.
The carrier has made fantastic orders of 32 A321neo jets, 6 B787-10 jets, and 42 B787-9 jets that are to be supplied between 2025 and 2028. This will enhance the aviation plan. It is yet to receive four B787-9s in early 2026 and 14 B777-300ERs between May 2027 and May 2028.
The Thai airways are also relying on leasing markets to support their transformation in aviation. The entire fleet will have increased by 80 planes by the close of 2028.
