The Chicago authorities are contemplating the use of e-learning as a solution to the safety issues associated with the immigration control within the city.
Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker has addressed the request of the Chicago school board members to consider e-learning because of the increasing student safety anxiety over the pursuit of federal immigration activities within the city. The reason why some people denied board members argued that families are afraid of traveling in and out of school and that e-learning could serve as a suitable solution in the meantime.
Board member Emma Lozano referred to the affair as an emergency and said that they needed to take some immediate action to make students feel secure about seeking an education. Nevertheless, Gov. Pritzker was rather cautious, stating the COVID-19 experience. He affirmed that e-learning might have long-term adverse effects on students in terms of learning and emotional well-being and that face-to-face school is comparatively stable and safe.
Mostly the CPS Interim CEO Macquline King said there have been talks about remote teaching, but that CPS has no authority to adopt extensive E-Learning on its own, without an emergency proclamation by the governor.
The Illinois State Board of Education recently supported the idea that districts have the ability to use remote learning days in case local leaders find circumstances that have severely negatively impacted student safety or access to school.
In the meantime, schools are getting ready to introduce soft lockdowns and provide community support programs and are keeping a close track of the situation.
