The commitment to environmental protection by Malaysia continues through its plastic ban together with e-waste disposal measures and standards and guidelines for sustainability.

The single-use plastic bag ban in Malaysia has received additional federal and state backing for all areas including Forest Reserves, National and State Parks, Marine Parks and Geopark Heritage Sites in addition to supermarkets, fast food restaurants and pharmacies. A wide range of plastic waste will disappear due to this extension.

Under the leadership of Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad during the 2025 Environment Ministers and State Executive Councillors Responsible for the Environment Meeting (MEXCOE) this decision was approved. The environmental sustainability-oriented meeting forced member states to build environmental solutions that suited their individual capacities.

The conference used its attention to ensure enhanced enforcement measures for plastic bag restriction policies and illegal e-waste processing activities. NRES Ministry conveyed that it is essential to safeguard environmental safety and public health by managing hazardous materials in electronic devices.

The 'Green Practices Guide for Sustainable Open House Celebrations’ introduced by Malaysia aims to help people manage plastic and waste production during festivals. Environmental sustainability duties combined with sustainable waste management require the new measures Malaysia has established.

Through MEXCOE 2025 Malaysia continues to take a leading role in environmental sustainability that ensures future generations can preserve a clean thriving natural environment.
