Generac enters the EV market with a new home charger, enhancing its portfolio in clean energy solutions.
Generac, well-known for its gas-powered home backup generators, has launched its first electric vehicle charger priced from $649. Available in 40amp and 48amp models, the Generac Level 2 charger supports all EVs, including Tesla with an adapter, featuring Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity for remote management via the Generac EV charging app. Especially, it includes Power Sharing capabilities to manage multiple chargers on one circuit and Power Boost for breaker monitoring.
Developed in collaboration with Wallbox, a leading EV charger manufacturer, Generac's device integrates proprietary software tailored for efficient operation. This launch marks Generac's well-planned expansion into electric power solutions, building on its PWRcell home battery and recent investments in solar storage technologies.
Greg Wischstadt, Generac’s VP of connectivity, highlighted the charger's role in advancing the company's clean energy initiatives, accelerating insights gained from Tesla's engineering expertise following the appointment of Brian Dow as VP of clean energy.
While the EV charger currently lacks smart home integrations and compatibility with the Matter standard, Generac continues to integrate its products with Ecobee smart thermostats for enhanced energy management. Future plans may align the EV charger with Ecobee’s ecosystem, potentially forming an integrated home energy management system.
