Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya inaugurates a ₹165 crore ESIC Hospital in Budgam, set to provide modern healthcare to 50,000 workers in Jammu and Kashmir.
On 24 April, Union Minister of Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr.Mansukh Mandaviya, is all set to inaugurate the newly constructed 30-bedded ESIC Hospital at Ompora District, Budgam, Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). This project is expected to significantly enhance the provision of healthcare delivery in the region under the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) scheme. Also, over 50,000 workers and their families in the region are expected to benefit from the hospital’s services, with residents of Budgam and surrounding districts soon having access to improved healthcare facilities.
Furthermore, the employee state insurance corporation hospital project occupies 5 acres of land with total development costs reaching approximately ₹165 crore. The hospital building together with its service building and 32 residential quarters occupies a total space of 24500 square meters. The hospital would begin operations with 30 beds which would increase to 100 beds later. The facility includes state-of-the-art infrastructure, such as three modular operating theatres and one dedicated emergency operation theatre to perform both planned and critical procedures. To ensure patients’ mobility needs are taken care of, four lifts have been installed in the premises. Optimal air quality and comfort are prioritized through a modern HVAC system.
Significantly, the ESI scheme was launched on 16 October 1989 in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir. At present, it covers around 183,119 insured persons and 700,000 beneficiaries across all districts. The ESIC Regional Office at Jammu and the Jammu-Kashmir Employees’ State Insurance Society (JKESIS) administers the scheme. According to CIO Bulletin, this facility comes as a breath of fresh air for residents in Budgam and the surrounding districts of Jammu and Kashmir. They would now be empowered to look after their healthcare needs more conveniently in a modern, well-equipped facility.
