Amidst the humanitarian crisis in the Middle East, countries like Qatar have decided to cancel and reschedule major fashion events that were set to take place in October.
The fashion industry has responded by postponing events during what is typically the busiest time of the year for the region as the humanitarian crisis in the Middle East worsens, with the death toll crossing 2,500.
One of the most-awaited red carpets, Fashion Trust Arabia, informed guests via email on Thursday that they would be delaying their awards ceremony, which was originally set for October 25th in Doha, Qatar.
Due to the developing situation in the Middle East, the Fashion Trust Arabia Awards ceremony that was initially planned for October 25 in Doha, Qatar, was subsequently postponed. Fashion Trust Arabia supports local designers in the Middle East and North Africa but feels that holding the event right now would be impolite. In a similar vein, We Design Beirut, a four-day fashion fair in Lebanon, was temporarily rescheduled to protect attendees from any potential terrorist attacks.
Pomellato, an Italian jewelry company, and Chopard have both opted to postpone their presentations in Dubai because of the heartbreaking circumstances there. While Chopard had planned a high-end jewelry presentation, Pomellato was going to host an event the following week. The afterparty for the Dubai debut of a real estate project has been cancelled, but Vogue Arabia will still hold a dinner. These choices demonstrate the industry's understanding of the need to be sensitive and supportive during this trying time.
