At CIO Bulletin, we had the privilege of interviewing Skyler Schroeder, Partner and CIO at Cabo Platinum. Skyler shared captivating insights into how the company offers pinnacle of luxury accommodations across Los Cabos, consistently surpassing guests’ expectations in Mexico’s most enchanting destination.

Can you share the founding story of Cabo Platinum? What inspired the vision to transform a luxury vacation and real estate service in a former fishing village like Cabo San Lucas into a globally recognized brand?

It all started with Danette Reid, our Founder, who at the time was an assistant to a global real estate developer. He owned a large amount of property in Los Cabos and tasked Danette with helping him build his home. When it was finished, she started renting it, along with his yacht in the marina. That owner was accustomed to a certain lifestyle, and when Danette started procuring the staff and services to accommodate it, she knew others would want the same. After discovering the best personnel and services in the area, she realized she had discovered the difference that allowed her operation to call this new level of service “Platinum.”

Cabo Platinum offers an impressive range of services, from luxury villa rentals to yacht charters and real estate. How do you ensure each service reflects your commitment to personalized, first-class experiences for guests, homeowners, and investors?

Several members of our team have worked in the luxury sector before moving to Los Cabos. We are also travelers at heart, so beyond our occupations, we know what is required to provide a bespoke service and offer an elevated experience. Each guest, client, and homeowner is unique and requires a different approach. We push ourselves to consistently find ways to make this happen. As the world is constantly changing, it’s a moving target, but our entire team is dedicated to getting it right. The passion flows through everyone—from chefs to butlers to concierge staff. Even the maintenance team is trained to ensure they operate at an elite level.

Your approach is described as ‘Experience First-Class Service.’ Could you walk us through what a day in the life of a Cabo Platinum guest might look like?

It really starts before guests even arrive. The concierge begins preparing an itinerary and building menus the moment they meet. From there, it truly depends on how far our guests wish to push their vacation. Frankly, many of our guests simply want to relax by the pool in their villas and enjoy time with their families. For them, we ensure our butlers create crafted cocktails and chefs are on standby to match tastes and flavors. For others who truly want to experience Baja, the concierge provides a full itinerary, complete with yacht charters, live entertainment at the villa, a daily masseuse, and perhaps even a helicopter tour with a mountaintop lunch and tequila tasting.

Cabo San Lucas has a storied past, from sea battles to cave drawings. How does Cabo Platinum weave this historical narrative into its offerings to create culturally immersive experiences for guests, beyond the typical luxury vacation?

We provide a fantastic Native Hispanic presentation that can be performed in our guest’s villa. It intertwines dance with historical antidotes about the land’s history. It’s a fun experience, and kids love it. Besides that, our concierge will suggest other options for an informative type of vacation, if that’s what is desired. It’s not something generally requested, as most of our guests are here to relax and enjoy their loved ones, not to be inundated with education and history.

The travel and real estate industries face increasing pressure to adopt sustainable practices. How is Cabo Platinum addressing environmental concerns, such as preserving Baja’s natural beauty and supporting local ecosystems like the turtle release programs at Pedregal Beach?

We absolutely love this question, as it encourages our competitors and partners to give back more to Baja. Our team contributes in several ways: we sponsor turtle releases, which help preserve the biodiversity of our beaches. We donate to local causes, such as schools for children in areas where access to quality education and supplies is limited. We are strong supporters of the humane society and efforts to eliminate animal cruelty. Additionally, we consistently train our team on proper recycling methods and efficient operations to avoid wasting precious resources.

Your concierge services are a hallmark of the Cabo Platinum experience. Can you share a unique example of how your team has gone above and beyond to create a memorable moment for a guest or client?

Mike and Cameron had spent months planning their dream wedding at a Los Cabos villa. However, less than two weeks before the event, disaster struck: the villa owner unexpectedly pulled the property from the rental market, canceling their celebration. Devastated, the couple feared this setback was a sign their marriage wasn’t meant to be. With 100 guests anticipating a joyous occasion, their vision appeared to be crumbling.

Cabo Platinum swiftly stepped in, demonstrating their extraordinary commitment to their clients. Their booking team immediately began searching for a suitable alternative villa, determined to preserve the couple’s dream. Simultaneously, their concierge, Fabiola, worked tirelessly around the clock, securing an almost entirely new lineup of vendors to reconstruct the event. Their seamless coordination and dedication transformed despair into renewed hope, treating the couple’s vision as their own.

Ultimately, Cabo Platinum didn’t merely salvage Mike and Cameron’s wedding—they crafted an experience that surpassed all expectations. The new villa was breathtaking, the vendors flawless, and every detail perfectly executed. As 100 guests celebrated, the couple’s tears of joy reflected their relief and gratitude, especially after doubting their day would happen. The result was a wedding more magical than they had imagined. Mike and Cameron continue to share heartfelt updates, expressing deep appreciation for Cabo Platinum’s exceptional service.

How have partnerships with local experts and community leaders enhanced Cabo Platinum’s luxury experiences and sustainability efforts in Cabo San Lucas?

That collaborative mindset has led us to build strong relationships with local experts, community leaders, and like-minded partners. These relationships have not only expanded our offerings into yachts, jets, and one-of-a-kind guest experiences, but they’ve also allowed us to grow responsibly and sustainably within the community we love. Working with people — not against them — has been the key to elevating the Cabo Platinum experience.

Looking ahead to the next decade, what are Cabo Platinum’s ambitious goals for expanding its footprint in Los Cabos and potentially beyond, while maintaining its elite service standards?

Our commitment has always been to not accept all villas into our portfolio — only the best. As there are so many homes under construction right now, we have our hands full vetting potential owners and working with those partners with whom we align, ensuring they maintain standards consistent with a Platinum Experience. We’ve been offered opportunities to expand beyond Los Cabos in the past but have turned those down, as we’re not interested in working on a villa unless we can personally inspect it and ensure it fits our qualifications. However, we have been approached by a new partner with an irresistible opportunity that will bring luxury to opportunities that had not been considered before. It’s an exciting moment, and hopefully, we can elaborate in the near future.

Skyler Schroeder, Partner and CIO | In His Own Words

My name is Skyler Schroeder, and I’m the CIO and Partner at Cabo Platinum. My journey here began while I was working in real estate in Bend, Oregon. After several conversations with Mishan and learning about the incredible hospitality business he and Danette had built, he floated a tentative offer: “We’ve got a lot going on down here — if you’re ever interested in joining forces, let me know.”

At the time, I was ready for a new challenge and a fresh experience. Cabo felt like the perfect place to find both. Without much hesitation, I packed up my car — along with my golden retriever, Rone — and made the move to Cabo San Lucas… That was just over six years ago, and I haven’t looked back once. Since then, I’ve become deeply engrained in the world of luxury villas, high-end yacht charters, private jets, and a lifestyle that once felt like a distant dream growing up in a small rural town in Oregon.
