Gamma Communications – Setting a Global Benchmark in Business Connectivity and Leading Europe’s UCaaS Future with Innovative and Customer-Focused Solutions

Businesses operating in fast-paced, dynamic markets rely on secure, smart, and user-friendly communication tools to stay competitive. Across Europe, companies look for trusted partners who understand the demands of modern work and deliver solutions that are reliable, intuitive, and built for long-term success. This is where Gamma Communications rises to the occasion, connecting people, teams, and technology to help businesses excel.

A leading provider of Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS), Gamma supports organisations in the UK, Germany, Spain, and the Netherlands. Listed on the London Stock Exchange, it delivers a wide range of services—including voice, connectivity, mobile, and security—designed to simplify communication and boost efficiency. Gamma’s mission is to create a better-connected world through innovative, sustainable solutions that adapt to business needs.

Anchored by four core principles—flexibility, collaboration, reliability, and control—Gamma offers tailored solutions that scale with businesses as they grow. Through strong partnerships and expert support, it ensures companies have the tools they need to succeed. Its secure, always-on services empower teams to work confidently from anywhere.

At CIO Bulletin, we had the distinct honor of interviewing Andrew Belshaw, CEO of Gamma Communications. He shared insights on how the company, driven by a commitment to innovation and responsibility, partners with top technology providers to deliver solutions that streamline operations and drive success. Dedicated to its channel partners and advancing digital excellence, Gamma is shaping a future where businesses and their people remain connected.

Gamma Communications: The Story of How It All Began

“When Gamma was founded back in 2002, our purpose was crystal clear — to simplify business communications,” reflects Andrew Belshaw, CEO of Gamma Communications. “Telecoms at the time were complex, expensive, and dominated by legacy providers. We wanted to challenge that status quo by creating something more agile, more customer-focused.”

From the outset, Gamma held a firm belief: communications should empower the people at the heart of organisations, not hold them back. That principle, Andrew says, still guides every decision today.

What began as a small challenger brand in the UK has since grown into a European leader in cloud communications, now trusted by over 100,000 businesses and supported by a powerful partner ecosystem. Gamma’s long-standing mission to support “good business” can be seen in how it operates — by putting customers and partners first, investing in in-house innovation, and delivering reliably through its own network infrastructure. This approach ensures organisations across the UK and Europe remain connected, competitive, and future-ready.

“This year, joining the FTSE 250 was a proud milestone for us,” Andrew notes. “But our vision hasn’t changed. We still believe that better communication builds stronger businesses — and stronger businesses build a better world.”

Gamma’s UCaaS Revolution: Shaping the Future of Business Communication

“Gamma has been a leader in Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS) for years, and that’s no accident,” says Andrew. “We entered the UCaaS market early with Horizon, our highly successful cloud PBX platform built on BroadSoft technology and developed within our own secure, geo-redundant infrastructure.”

Today, Horizon supports over 800,000 seats in the UK, delivering reliable, scalable voice services to thousands of SMEs and midmarket organisations.

Andrew explains that to meet the evolving needs of modern collaboration, Gamma integrated Cisco Webex into its UCaaS offering. This move enables a richer experience for users who require video conferencing, messaging, and AI-powered meeting features. “Webex for Gamma is delivered with intuitive commercial bundles, so businesses can access enterprise-grade collaboration tools without the complexity,” he adds.

Gamma also supports Microsoft Teams Phone through Direct Routing and Operator Connect, giving customers the flexibility to build on existing Microsoft investments. With close to half a million Teams users voice-enabled via Gamma’s services, it is now one of the largest Operator Connect providers globally.

For micro businesses, Gamma offers PhoneLine+, a simplified, cloud-based voice solution designed to replace traditional phone lines ahead of the PSTN switch-off. For SMEs, the iPECS platform delivers full-featured UCaaS with the flexibility of both on-premises and cloud deployments.

All of Gamma’s solutions are underpinned by its own network, ensuring quality and control across the full customer experience. Whether customers need basic voice services or a complete unified communications suite, Gamma’s approach ensures solutions are intuitive, secure, cost-effective, and future-ready.

“Our leadership in UCaaS isn’t just about the strength of our portfolio. It’s about how we position it. Rather than segmenting by company size, we map our UCaaS offering around three key factors:

Cloud readiness – where the customer is on their journey from legacy systems to full cloud adoption.

Communication complexity – from simple voice to integrated collaboration and workflow tools.

Industry-specific demands – recognising that sectors like healthcare, retail, and legal have unique communication needs.”

From simple voice to advanced collaboration tools, Gamma’s flagship solutions cover every stage of the business communications journey:

PhoneLine+: Simple, reliable voice for PSTN switchers and light PBX users – mobile-first ready.

Horizon with Webex: Gamma voice with Cisco Webex UI – cloud-first calling, AI features, and collaboration.

iPECS Cloud: Cloud PBX heritage – API-driven and well suited to vertical or call-heavy environments.

Webex for Gamma: Full-stack Cisco UCaaS that grows with the business – for companies of any size.

Microsoft Teams Phone: Gamma voice layer for Microsoft estates – with UC, CRM, and value-added integration.

All are delivered over Gamma’s own network, ensuring quality, security, and control. “Whether a customer needs basic voice or a fully integrated UCaaS suite, our portfolio is a flexible toolkit, designed to evolve with how businesses communicate.”

Beyond Voice: The Power Behind Every Connection

Mr. Belshaw is clear about what sets the company apart. “Our core strength is that we own and operate our own network infrastructure. That end-to-end control means we can deliver consistently high reliability, security, and service. It gives our partners and customers complete confidence that their communications are fully supported.”

Foundational services like SIP Trunking remain a vital part of Gamma’s portfolio, enabling organisations to cut costs, consolidate infrastructure, and prepare for future migrations to cloud-based environments. But the CEO is quick to point out that Gamma’s commitment to evolution goes far beyond its roots.

In the contact centre space, SmartAgent is changing the game. Designed for Amazon Connect, it brings voice, chat, email, and social channels together into a single browser window. The unified interface boosts agent performance and customer satisfaction, integrating seamlessly with CRMs, knowledge bases, and helpdesk systems.

Looking ahead, Gamma is moving decisively into transformative areas. A standout example is the FUSION IoT solution — a leap beyond traditional voice and data. With flexible, global multi-network connectivity and advanced SIM management, it empowers businesses to connect and manage devices, gather real-time data, and create entirely new revenue streams and operational efficiencies through smart solutions across industries.

Security is another pillar embedded in everything Gamma does. The company delivers robust protection through secure network design and deployment, secure voice services, and value-added offerings from recent acquisitions. Gamma Secure provides tailored managed detection and response services, including vulnerability management, threat intelligence, network detection and response, and cyber awareness training — all designed to address the growing cyber risk profile of modern businesses.

By blending in-house development, direct network control, and a modular approach to services, Gamma delivers communications that are flexible, connected, and secure — empowering organisations to innovate, scale, and remain truly future-ready.

A Digital-First Strategy Built for Every Market

“When I think about what truly sets Gamma apart,” Andrew reflects, “it’s our portfolio approach — the ability to give customers the best-fit solution, whether developed in-house or through strategic technology partnerships. We don’t force a one-size-fits-all model because businesses across different sectors, sizes, and geographies need choice, not compromise.”

This flexibility has been central to Gamma’s success across markets like the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, and Spain. In the UK, Gamma’s in-house innovation shines through solutions like PhoneLine+, designed specifically for small businesses, and SmartAgent, a powerful browser-based contact centre interface built on Amazon Connect. With advanced capabilities like CRM integration, sentiment tracking, and omnichannel management, SmartAgent elevates both agent performance and customer experience.

At the same time, Gamma amplifies its portfolio through world-class partnerships. Collaborations with Cisco, Microsoft, and iPECS bring customers enhanced sophistication and choice. For example, Horizon with Webex, delivered with Cisco, adds powerful video and collaboration features to Horizon users. Meanwhile, Gamma’s Microsoft Teams Phone services — including Direct Routing and Operator Connect — have made the company one of the largest Operator Connect providers globally.

In Germany, recent acquisitions of Placetel and STARFACE have expanded digital buying capabilities. Placetel enables customers to access Cisco Webex-based UCaaS solutions through intuitive digital journeys, while STARFACE offers a highly flexible UCaaS platform purpose-built for the Mittelstand market, backed by deep local expertise and over 1,000 reseller partners.

In Spain and the Netherlands, Gamma continues to tailor its offerings for SMEs, bundling hosted voice with fixed-mobile and internet access solutions — all managed via local-language digital platforms designed for the unique needs of each market.

At the heart of this digital-first approach is a commitment to simplicity and enablement. Tools like the Partner Portal, Gamma Academy, and self-serve provisioning empower resellers to sell and support services more efficiently, while customers enjoy seamless onboarding, easier management, and access to a growing suite of services — from voice and video to secure payments, networking, mobile, and IoT — all delivered through a consistent, high-quality experience.

Engineering Efficiency, Driving European UCaaS Leadership

“At Gamma, we ensure our solutions remain intuitive and accessible by combining user-focused design with enterprise-grade resilience and security, underpinned by deep technical expertise, a broad portfolio, and a commitment to solving real customer problems,” says Andrew.

Nowhere is this more evident than in Gamma’s secure managed network service. Designed for industries where uptime, visibility, and compliance are critical, such as public sector, retail, healthcare, and financial services, the solution brings together Cisco Catalyst, Meraki and Secure Access technologies to create a simplified, AI-powered network experience.

This principle applies across the portfolio: from the simplicity of PhoneLine+, to SmartAgent for customer service teams, to fully integrated UCaaS. Gamma Mobile ensures seamless connectivity for mobile workforces, while IoT services support industries like retail, logistics and infrastructure with real-time data and automation. These capabilities help businesses operate more intelligently, stay agile, and deliver better outcomes at scale.

Gamma is on a mission to become the number one provider of UCaaS in Western Europe. The company is expanding with purpose, combining strong local partnerships, targeted acquisitions, and a growing portfolio of cloud-first solutions that are easy to adopt, use and scale.

Across Europe, Gamma works with trusted partners who take its technology to market, helping SMEs unlock the benefits of cloud communications. In the UK, it supports partners through Gamma Edge, a framework designed to help them grow, while also delivering managed services directly to larger organisations through Gamma Enterprise.

Whether it’s powering collaboration, simplifying complexity or supporting secure growth, Gamma is building a leadership position across every segment of the market, with ambition, focus and momentum. It is already delivering IoT and mobile services across the UK and Europe, helping organisations extend cloud communications into connected environments.

“Our core strength is that we own and operate our own network infrastructure. That end-to-end control means we can deliver consistently high reliability, security, and service. It gives our partners and customers complete confidence that their communications are fully supported.”
