Interview Highlights
What inspired the founding of Olibro Design, and how has your mission to provide complete web care evolved over the past 13 years to make you a leader in the industry?
Olibro Design was founded in 2009 with a focused mission: to support the academic community in building lasting digital presences. Our earliest clients were globally respected scholars, including Immanuel Wallerstein, Vaclav Smil, and Curt Wittig, who needed websites to popularize their work. In fact, the name “Olibro” was derived from “libro” and reflects our roots in academic literature.
As we worked with leading intellectuals, we noticed a larger challenge across sectors: most organizations faced a disjointed digital experience, with one agency handling design, another SEO, and yet another hosting or updates. That fragmentation often led to poor performance, security lapses, and lost time. We responded by evolving into a one-stop digital partner offering strategic design, robust development, ongoing maintenance, and 24/7 support.
Today, we serve clients across sectors, including e-commerce, nonprofit, academia, and research. We’ve remained intentionally boutique, prioritizing relationships over volume, and have built a business based on long-term trust, adaptability, and results.
Can you share an overview of Olibro’s key offerings, and how these cater to industries like e-commerce, small business, academics, and nonprofits?
Olibro’s services are designed to deliver both performance and peace of mind. Our core offerings include:
Our ability to adapt these offerings across industries is what sets us apart. For academics and nonprofits, we build clarity, simplicity, and accessibility into the experience. For ecommerce and small business clients, we prioritize load speed, conversions, and brand consistency. Whether it's a scholar launching a digital archive or a retailer optimizing for mobile, we provide solutions that are strategic, scalable, and built to last.
While Olibro is U.S.-based, how do you approach serving diverse client needs across industries?
Our clients span a wide range of industries across the U.S., from professional services to e-commerce and education. What unites them is a need for thoughtful, scalable digital solutions, and that’s where we come in. We take the time to understand the nuances of each client and then tailor our approach to fit specific business models, user expectations, and growth goals. It’s a collaborative, consultative process designed to deliver real outcomes, not just deliverables.
In short, we serve fewer clients more deeply, and that’s allowed us to build lasting partnerships that span years, not just project cycles.
Olibro’s A.R.T. methodology—Accountability, Responsibility, and Transparency—sets you apart. How has this contributed to your success?
Our A.R.T. methodology is more than a set of values; it’s our framework for every client relationship.
In an industry where clients often feel in the dark, our A.R.T. methodology builds confidence and peace of mind. It has helped us maintain a 96% client retention rate because clients trust us to be not just technical experts, but committed, communicative partners.
How does your 24/7 website care model build trust and differentiate Olibro?
Many agencies excel during the build, then disappear after launch. We believe that’s when the real work begins.
Our 24/7 website care plans offer comprehensive support, including real-time security monitoring, performance tuning, software updates, uptime tracking, and daily backups. But what makes our care unique is its personal nature. Clients aren’t handed off to a faceless help desk. They communicate with a team that knows their site, understands their goals, and acts quickly when issues arise.
We’ve earned a reputation for “record-breaking” response times, as one client put it, because we take service seriously. For clients without in-house tech teams, we often become their full web department — reliable, strategic, and always a step ahead.
With a 96% client retention rate, how do you define and measure success?
We define success as the website’s impact over time.
We track this through:
As the CEO — or Client Expectation Officer, as I like to say — I ensure we’re aligned with both the visible and invisible expectations our clients bring. It’s not enough to “check the boxes.” We ask: Did the project make their life easier? Did it move the needle? Did we exceed what they hoped for, even if they couldn’t articulate it at the start?
That mindset has created outcomes that speak for themselves and client relationships that last.
What innovations or growth plans are on the horizon for Olibro?
We’re leveraging AI-assisted tools to create smarter, more efficient workflows, both internally and in our client-facing services. This includes tools for content optimization, SEO insights, predictive analytics, and support automation.
We’re also expanding our care offerings to include more strategic advisory by helping clients refine their digital strategy, accessibility, and infrastructure planning.
Innovation at Olibro isn’t about chasing trends; it’s about providing each client with the tools, insights, and support they need to thrive in a rapidly changing digital world.
What legacy does Olibro aim to leave in the digital space?
Our legacy isn’t the number of websites we launch but rather how much we care about the people behind them. In an industry often characterized by overpromising and underdelivering, we’ve built a different kind of reputation. One of our clients, Binais, put it best in a review:
“Touraj genuinely cares about his clients' success, which is rare these days. He consistently overdelivers on his promises, and Olibro’s response time is nothing short of record-breaking.”
That’s the legacy we want: to be the agency known not just for what we build but for how we make our clients feel supported, successful, and genuinely valued.
Touraj Rahimi | In His Own Words
My journey began in Silicon Valley in the early 1980s, where I spent 25 years designing and building digital systems and software platforms at companies like Eaton Test Systems, Memorex/Unisys, KLA Instruments, and Ampex. That experience shaped my systems-thinking approach and deepened my belief in how technology, when applied thoughtfully, can drive meaningful business outcomes.
At Olibro, I bring that mindset to every engagement, combining engineering discipline with a strong focus on user experience, marketing, and performance-driven design. I take a systems-based approach to everything we do, from developing custom web platforms and SEO strategies to refining internal processes for greater efficiency and impact.
Outside of work, I’m a lifelong learner and classical music enthusiast. Schubert, in particular, speaks to my appreciation for structure, passion, nuance, and timeless craft — values that also define our work at Olibro.
