Q. What advice would you like to give to the budding female entrepreneurs?
When adversity knocks you down, don’t let it get the best of you, and most importantly DON’T CRY about it. In a male dominated workforce, we already have the odds stacked against us. We are labeled as bossy, combative, and emotional just because we are female. I would advise female entrepreneurs to stay focused on their goals, believe in themselves, and be persistent in pursuing their dreams. Build and utilize your network and seek out mentors and resources for support and guidance. And, always be willing to adapt and pivot as needed to stay competitive and relevant in the marketplace. Remember, with hard work, determination, and resilience, anything is possible.
So keep pushing forward and don’t give up on your dreams!
Q. What is the most challenging task you ever accomplished?
Overcoming the loss of 80% of my business. 4 years into opening RDM’s doors, we lost one our biggest clients. They accounted for about 80% of our total book of business. I thought I was going to have to shut the doors down because it came out of nowhere. I had such a strong relationship with this client that I thought we would work together forever. I put all of my eggs in one basket and learned NEVER to do that again. With hard work and persistence I cold called, knocked on several businesses doors, and quadrupled my sales within the next couple of years.
Q. What impact do you want to have in the world or change that you want to see or make happen?
I feel very strongly about showing young women the importance of creating a future for themselves outside of their spouse or significant other. We currently have 9 young women that are working full time at Results Driven Marketing. I am close with all of these talented young ladies. I make a point to push them to become the best version of themselves on a daily basis. Personally and professionally. I feel it is very important to let them know that no matter how good they are, there is always someone that might be working harder to outshine them. By continuing their education and becoming experts in their field, they can rise above their competition, build economic independence, and dominate in their chosen field.
Q. What are the pros and cons of being a female entrepreneur?
The pros in being a female entrepreneur are the ability to make a difference and impact on their community and industry, providing inspiration and motivation to other females. I am a firm believer in lifting other women up and cheering them on as they achieve their success. I have many female friends that are entrepreneurs, and it makes me smile everytime I see them achieving their dreams. I think women entrepreneurs bring a unique perspective to their businesses and can bring fresh insights. I am motivated by personal fulfillment, and working on something I am passionate about can be extremely rewarding. The cons are gender bias can still present challenges for female entrepreneurs, limiting opportunities to secure funding or access to certain resources. The challenge of work-life balance is a big one. I always feel guilty if I have work to do instead of spending more time with my children. I make a point to stop working at 5PM M-F and never on the weekends. If there are tasks that need to be closed out, I wait until my kids are in bed and work after. I need to make sure my kids know they are important to me, but balancing work and family responsibilities can be challenging for women entrepreneurs, who may be expected to juggle multiple roles and priorities. The mom guilt struggle is real for kick butt females!
Q. How would you define true entrepreneurship?
True entrepreneurship is the ability to identify a problem or opportunity in the market and create a unique solution that provides value to customers. It involves taking risks, being adaptable, and continuously learning and growing. Successful entrepreneurs are often driven by creativity, passion, and a strong work ethic, and are willing to work hard and make sacrifices in order to achieve their goals. True entrepreneurship also involves being innovative and able to think outside of the box, as well as being able to manage risks and navigate the challenges that come with starting and running a business. When I first opened RDM I remember saying to my good friend “I’ll either be homeless or a huge success” I chose the ladder. I am always thinking of ways to be ahead of the curve to ensure we stand out from our competition. We created Careology, a unique messaging platform that remarkets to our clients target customers to ensure higher conversion rates. Although it took two years to build, and a ton of resources, we are proud to say we have launched the product March 1st 2023, and have 10 active clients who are huge fans!
Q. What other entrepreneurs do you look up to? Why?
Oprah Winfrey is one of the most inspiring female entrepreneurs, motivating others to pursue their own entrepreneurial goals. I look up to her for many reasons but I love that she worked SO hard to get where she is today. She can be proud that this was not handed to her, but she earned it! She was born into poverty and didn’t have the benefits most entrepreneurs do. “The Oprah Winfrey Show” was one of the highest-rated talk shows in the United States for 25 years. She used her platform to highlight social issues and advocate for women’s rights, education, and racial equality. She founded her own television network in 2011, the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), which features programming on self-improvement, spiritual growth, and health. She has donated millions of dollars to various causes, including education, health care, and disaster relief. She is also one of the wealthiest self-made women in the United States, with a net worth of over $2 billion. Yes please!
