Amazon gets rights for cricket in Australia

Australia's World Test Championship and ODI World Cup defenses are set to air exclusively on Amazon Prime Video, according to a historic deal reached on Monday.

A historic agreement struck on Monday would see Australia's World Test Championship and ODI World Cup defenses air exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. The streaming service now owns the broadcast rights to all Australian International Cricket Council (ICC) competitions, both women's and men's. All of the recent ODI World Cups were televised on Foxtel/Kayo, with only Australia's matches shown on the Nine Network. In the World Cup quarterfinal, the Matildas defeated France via penalty shootout. They celebrated on the pitch.

The federal government reinforced its determination to sport anti-siphoning measures, which coincides with the current action.

The minister of communications, Michelle Rowland, sent legislation to parliament last week that would update anti-siphoning regulations and require free-to-air services to have priority access to major sporting events. In a statement, ICC CEO Geoff Allardice praised the relationship with Amazon and expressed his excitement about a new, four-year deal with Prime Video for the rights to broadcast ICC cricket in Australia. They are excited to collaborate with Prime Video Australia to offer more Australian fans cutting-edge coverage of elite cricket. In addition, Australia is the reigning champion of both the 50-over Women's Cricket World Cup and the most recent Women's T20 World Cup. January will mark the start of the ICC and Amazon's new collaboration.
