SACOME has appointed Catherine Mooney as CXO to enhance the resources sector in South Australia and improve its growth.
South Australian Chamber of Mines and Energy (SACOME) have a new CXO, Catherine Mooney, which is one of the most profound leadership changes in the resources sector of the state. Mooney, a proven ASX resources head with more than 25 years of experience in the energy sector, mining, and government, will take up the post on December 2.
SACOME highlighted Mooney's exceptional industry experience and solid relationship-building skills, acquired over a decade at AGL and more than six years at BHP. The time of her appointment as CXO is critical since South Australia is on the edge of satisfying increased demand of copper in the world as the world is electrifying and expanding renewable energy sources.
Mooney referred to the resources department as a powerhouse of the state, which plays a significant role in creating employment and economic development. She highlighted the fact that gas remains vital in the energy transition in Australia and so makes it affordable and reliable for industries.
Carl Kavina, the President of SACOME, announced the selection of Mooney from a highly competitive pool of national and foreign candidates. He commended her advocacy and strategic leadership abilities and said that her position as CXO will provide members with powerful benefits throughout the state.
Mooney replaces the interim CEO Nicola McFarlane, who has been in office since August 2025. The council celebrated McFarlane because he brought about stability and continuity in the transition.
Mooney stated that she will invest in more exploration, enhanced project pipelines in the future, and enhanced competitiveness of the South Australian resources sector, which she would now commit to in her new CXO role.
