Jesse Watters will take over the prime-time slot on Fox News

Fox News announced that their 7 p.m. show host, Jesse Watters, will replace Tucker Carlson’s timeslot.

According to an announcement on Monday from Fox News, Jesse Watters, a Fox News host who worked his way up from a production assistant to become one of the network's biggest stars, will replace Tucker Carlson in the 8 p.m. programming time slot.

Sean Hannity will continue to air at 9 p.m. ET, and Greg Gutfeld's late-night show will move to 10 p.m. ET, according to a statement from Fox News, which also confirmed other changes to the network's prime-time schedule.

A ratings decline in the crucial 8 p.m. hour following Carlson's departure from the network in late April put pressure on management to identify a replacement that would appeal to a sizable and devoted audience.

At the moment, Watters is the host of the 7 p.m. show. According to the network, the opinion program "Jesse Watters Primetime" has averaged 2.6 million viewers since the year's start. Watters has made a name for himself in recent years as one of Fox's most outspoken conservative culture warriors and a staunch supporter of the late President Donald Trump.

When Watters had just graduated from college in 2002, he began working as a production assistant for Fox News. His ambush-style man-on-the-street interviews, which many detractors found hostile and abrasive, helped him gain a following on the network.
