Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in New York City is set to induct Missy Elliott, Kate Bush, Willie Nelson and more on Friday. Brandie Carlile, Sia, and more are set to perform.

There's good reason for fans of pop, funk, R&B, hip-hop, country, rock, and R&E to celebrate the 2023 class of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

On Friday night in New York City, Missy Elliott, Kate Bush, Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow, Chaka Khan, Don Cornelius, the originator of "Soul Train," and the late George Michael will be inducted into the hall of fame.

John, Brandi Carlile, H.E.R., Chris Stapleton, St. Vincent, Stevie Nicks, Adam Levine, Carrie Underwood, Common, LL Cool J, Queen Latifah, Sia and more, will all be performing or serving as presenters at the Brooklyn ceremony.

Elliott joins the Rock Hall as the first female hip-hop performer, earning praise for being "a true pathbreaker in a male-dominated genre."

Before being eligible for induction, artists are required to have released their initial commercial album at least 25 years prior. Over a thousand musicians, historians, and professionals in the music industry cast their votes for the nominees.

Bush was a candidate last year but was not selected. She entered this year as a result of a surge in popularity following the airing of her song "Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)" on the television series "Stranger Things." She was praised by the venue for "capturing audiences and inspiring countless musicians with her lush soundscapes, radical experimentation, literary themes, sampling, and theatricality."
