West Bengal Election 2026 Results Live:
According to initial West Bengal Election Results 2026, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has reached the halfway point in Bengal and established a large lead over the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), which currently holds power. The state conducted its elections through two separate days, which occurred on April 23 and 29, while officials ordered re-polling to occur in the Falta constituency and certain booths throughout the state, citing "severe electoral offences and subversion of the democratic process.” At present, the BJP has won 34 seats and leads 170 seats, which gives it control of the election, while the TMC is far behind, having won only 13 seats with a lead in 69 seats. Among the other parties in the electoral fray, the Indian National Congress (INC) has won 1 seat and leads in 1 constituency, Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) has won 2 seats, and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) is leading in 1 constituency.
Furthermore, Suvendu Adhikari of the BJP leads in Nandigram according to the latest update, but he falls behind Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur. Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who belongs to the Congress party, trails in Baharampur, which people consider a Congress stronghold in a state that lacks any other significant electoral presence from the party. Rekha Patra, one of the survivors of the Sandeshkhali sexual assault cases, has a narrow lead over Ananda Sarkar of the TMC in Hingalganj. The state’s education minister, Dr. Shashi Panja, is leading over the BJP’s Purnima Chakraborty in Shyampukur. BJP’s Agnimitra Paul retains her Asansol Dakshin seat.
In the electoral campaign, Suvendu Adhikari had called upon voters to reject TMC’s alleged corruption and misrule, while the TMC presented the election as a fight to save Bengal’s culture and identity against the “outsider” BJP. Moreover, the election fervor heated up on May 2 with the TMC’s Abhishek Banerjee challenging the entire Union of India’s machinery to come to Falta and contest elections there. According to CIO Bulletin, the Bengal election results thus far present a decisive anti-incumbency vote in favor of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Stay tuned for the latest updates.

The BJP received a decisive mandate from the people, marking a return to Government in West Bengal for the first time in post-independence India. It successfully channeled the women’s vote in its favor by portraying the opposition as anti-women for voting against the Delimitation Bill, 2026, which proposed a one-third reservation for women and used the 2011 census to redraw constituency boundaries. Furthermore, it gained the support of the government of employees with Home Minister Amit Shah promising to implement the Seventh Pay Commission in the state within 45 days of coming to power. The party also translated its promise of the Center’s support for development and infrastructure projects into votes by capturing the popular imagination of both the middle class and first-time voter cohorts. It assured voters of their safety and security by deploying central forces, thereby encouraging them to participate in the “festival of democracy” without fear. Lastly, the BJP leveraged the special intensive revision (SIR) exercise to impress upon voters that only genuine, bona fide voters would be able to cast their franchise, thereby removing “illegal infiltrators” to the tune of 27 lakhs from the electoral roll.
