MRCB enters the data centre industry

The partnership represents a significant turning point for the organization and puts it at the forefront of the quickly growing high-performance computing and artificial intelligence ecosystem.

Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad declared that it is entering the digital infrastructure market by forming a strategic partnership to build a data centre facility in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, which is prepared for artificial intelligence (AI). The project represents MRCB's foray into the rapidly expanding data center and high-performance computing ecosystem, with an estimated gross development cost (GDC) of RM2.1 billion.

The complete facility is anticipated to be finished by the fourth quarter of 2027, and final agreements are anticipated to be finalized by the third quarter of 2026, according to a news release from MRCB.

According to MRCB group Managing Director Imran Salim,

“Beyond establishing a footprint in a high-growth sector, the project will ensure a steady stream of long-term recurring income via a 10-year lease structure, significantly enhancing the asset value of pour land in Bukit Jalil.”

The partnership, according to MRCB group Managing Director Datuk Imran Salim, is a significant turning point for the business and puts the organization at the forefront of the quickly growing high-performance computing and artificial intelligence ecosystem.

With high-density electricity and sophisticated cooling systems developed to manage demanding GPU-driven workloads and AI accelerator technologies, the data center is being specifically constructed to accommodate next-generation AI applications.

In order to guarantee high levels of dependability, availability, and operational resilience, the facility will be built in compliance with Uptime Institute Tier III requirements.

PASB will work with Inspur Communication Malaysia Sdn Bhd, a division of China's Inspur Group, a top supplier of cloud computing and big data solutions, to manage the project's construction, commissioning, maintenance, and daily operations.

CIO Bulletin views this initiative as it may put MRCB in a position to profit from the quick development of AI, cloud computing, and digital infrastructure. If done well, it could boost Malaysia's position in the regional AI and data center ecosystem and convert some of the company's land assets into a long-term digital infrastructure platform.
